Marie Triller
Portrait of an Athlete
The great advances women have made in the past 100 years include those within the realm of fitness. I photographed my sister, Maureen Triller of Houston, to exemplify today’s female athlete. Captured here competing in an international fitness competition in Miami in February 2020, she states, “Through fitness I can prove to myself that I am stronger and more powerful than I ever thought I could be. This translates into every aspect of my life.”
Triller is a photographer and educator residing in New York’s Hudson Valley. She is best known for her compelling photographic essay Ten Years: Remembering 9/11 (John Isaacs Books, New York) which chronicled a decade of September 11 observances at ground zero. Her work is included in the permanent collections of George Eastman House, National 9/11 Museum, and New York Public Library, among others. Triller received an MFA in Photography from State University of New York at New Paltz and a BS in Art Education from College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. She has taught photography at several institutions including Union College, Schenectady NY, Albany College of Pharmacy and College of St. Rose in Albany, NY. Triller has exhibited nationally and internationally in both solo and group exhibitions for over 30 years. Her work is included in AI-AP’s American Photography 35 (2019) and has been featured online at L’oeil de la Photographie, Your Daily Photograph, and Pro Photo Daily. Triller is also a submissions reviewer at LensCulture, an online photography exhibitions platform. She is a member of WPA (Women’s Photo Alliance) in NYC.
