Sarah Pollman's work merges art and art history to connect contemporary imaging culture with its historical counterparts. Multi-disciplinary and based in research, her practice utilizes academic, artistic, curatorial and educational strategies to reveal the disparate narratives created by cultural producers through time, interrogating the idea of cohesive and linear history. She is the recipient of an Art Writing Workshop from the AICA-USA and Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program, a Curatorial Opportunity Program grant at the New Art Center in Newton, and a Faculty Fund Grant from Emerson College. She has curated exhibitions at the Photographic Resource Center, the Dorchester Art Project, and the New Art Center in Newton, as well as in various independent spaces. In addition to writing introductions to artist monographs, her written work has been published in art journals including Art New England and Big Red & Shiny. Her first monograph, The Distances Between Us, was published by Trema Förlag (Stockholm, Sweden) in 2016 and her visual projects have been shown internationally, including exhibitions at the Danforth Art Museum, the Griffin Museum of Photography and the Rourke Art Museum.
Sarah Pollman holds a BFA and MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University. She has previously taught courses at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Tufts University, and Montserrat College of Art. Currently, she is the 2020 Lead Artist for the Community Arts Initiative Artist Project at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and an Affiliated Lecturer at Emerson College.
